This unusual instrument was
used by Jesse Crawford for recording purposes before Wurlitzer built the
4/21 recording studio organ for the Paramount Theatre in New York City.
A "Style 260", nominally, it nevertheless shows many deviations from that standard
design. In particular, the inclusion
of a 2nd Vox Humana and of the
Dulciana and Aeoline are unusual. Perhaps Wurlitzer included them in
order to be able to demonstrate voices that were more common on their church
organs. In addition, the English
Horn, Krumet, and 16' extention of the String
are all not usually present on a "Style 260". This instrument also shows more extensive Tibia
unification than is typical for a 260. This organ apparently later
went to radio station WTAM/WEAR in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1929. This stoplist list is taken from John W. Landon's
book, "Jesse Crawford, Poet
of the Organ; Wizard of the Mighty Wurlitzer" (where it was listed as opus 1900.) Does anyone know what finally
happened to this unusual Wurlitzer? Larry Chace (originally posted to PIPORG-L on 28 Sep 1996) |
